Oh My! I Think I'm In Love With The BlogSlut: On Genius

"If you are lucky enough to run into someone who is beautiful and crazy and misguided and deranged and brilliant and honest enough to do this, with no fallback, with wings that might not work, buy them a sandwich."
~ end of GENIUSCIDE: READING MY SO-CALLED FREELANCE LIFE BY MICHELLE GOODMAN by Elizabeth Bachner

(click on above link to read her take on Michelle Goodman's How-To book, "My So-Called Freelance Life")

I just scanned it, taking a break from writing, and hungry.

Although, I have to admit, this did make me laugh: "What Michelle Goodman is describing sounds identical to a cubicle job, only done in your bathrobe, potentially surrounded by children and pets."

That, it does (she types in her little room sans children or pets, although there is a parakeet happily chirping in the next room - making her think of her grandmother.)

"If your genius is acting up, and you suppress it by treating it like a hobby, beware. You would (hopefully) not mistake a loosed, rampaging wildcat for a caged hamster."

This made me think of something Meridel LeSueur said once, when she was talking to a large audience (part of a panel discussion or something like that, on the topic of People's Culture).

"You know," Meridel said, "Jose Marti said we live in the heart of the beast." She paused for a second and then continued: "And some people think you can go in its cage, and pet the beast. But you have to be careful--it might bite you."

Yep. And someone with his "genius acting up" is better than damaged and deranged (she says, staring out the window at the apparently damaged and deranged.)

Nice to "see" you here, Lyle.
